Heiko Wommelsdorf

Born 1982 in Bremen and first trained as a wood sculptor, Heiko Wommelsdorf now participates in the post-graduate course of Meisterschüler under Ulrich Eller at the Braunschweig University of Art. This is where he studied Sound Installation/Sound Sculpture from 2009 to 2011. The three years before he has spent at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel, studying Media Art under BKH Gutmann, Thorsten Goldberg & Arno Dreyblatt. In 2011 Wommelsdorf received a residence scholarship at the artists’ houses Lauenburg/Elbe and Meinersen.

His, in terms of material, extremely reduced installations concentrate on sound phenomena from the daily life. Discoveries made in the urban space are transferred to the context of an exhibition, in order to leave the event to the recipient. The flickering of defective fluorescent tubes, the steps of a person coming closer or water dropping as a result of water damage – those phenomena are being observed, rearranged and played like instruments.
